There always seems to be two different paths to go down when buying a phone case. You can either have something cute or something practical, but rarely do these two paths collide. If you want something super protective it’s generally quite bulky and heavy, and I’ve had pretty cases that have snapped on me during the first week of use!

I’ve always loved Tech21 for their Evo Mesh cases as they come in nice bright colours, but they have a very sporty look to them. Tech21 has now brought out some really sleek cases that are much more subtle. With the metallic finish you hardly notice that they’re designed for protection rather than style!

The Evo Elite Case comes in four colours perfectly matched to the different metallic finishes of the iPhone. I have a rose gold case on my gold iPhone 6 and I like how the different colours look together. The back of the case is almost completely transparent, but it has a shimmer to it.

The edges of the case feature Tech21’s FlexShock which helps to absorb the impact when the phone is dropped. I don’t tend to catastrophically drop my phone (touch wood), but it has slid off the couch in this case with no damage at all. For a highly protective case it’s very light weight and doesn’t add a lot of bulk.

The only thing that I don’t like about the case is the that the openings at the bottom for the ports and speakers extend to the back so the bottom white bar is exposed.

I’ve also been trying out the Impact Shield Screen Protector. Now I have always used a screen protector on every iPhone I’ve had. But I stopped using one once I got the iPhone 6 because they don’t fit the whole display. This is because of the shape of the glass, as it starts to curve at the edges of the phone which makes it impossible for a flat screen protector to stick. Even if you put a screen protector on perfectly, there’s still about a millimetre gap on both sides.

Since I’ve had a naked phone screen for nearly two years, it has a lot of light scratches so I was surprised to see that, when I put the Impact Shield on, it looked totally fine. I’ve been really enjoying how scratches don’t show up on it due to the self-healing properties, and that you don’t get as many finger print smudges!

Because it’s a designed to help protect against impact rather just keeping the glass shiny like typical screen protectors, it’s slightly thicker. When swiping in from the side you can definitely feel the edge, so it takes some getting use to.
